Thomas Chalmers (1780-1847) was a Scottish political economist and leader of the Free Church of Scotland. He believed that the economic condition of the people depended on their moral condition, and that the answer to over-population lay in education. In his 'Political Economy' of 1832, he aimed to show that the adoption of particular economic policies could lead to moral improvement. In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, rubbed, with slight loss. Joints cracked. Internally, firmly bound. Bright, with light foxing prominent to margins and first and last few pages, rarely affecting text.
