A First Edition of Colman's Poetical Vagaries Bound in leather with gilt embellished spine George Colman (1762 1836), known as "the Younger," was an English dramatist and miscellaneous writer. He was the son of George Colman "the Elder". Colman, whose witty conversation made him a favourite, was also the author of a great deal of so-called humorous poetry (mostly coarse, though much of it was popular) My Night Gown and Slippers (1797), reprinted under the name of Broad Grins, in 1802; and Poetical Vagaries (1812). Some of his writings were published under the assumed name of Arthur Griffinhood of Turnham Green. In a full calf binding. There is wear to the extremities including bumping and rubbing. The front hinge is cracked and the rear hinge is starting. The inner hinges are strained. The binding is firm. Internally, there is a large tide mark that runs throughout most of the book as well as the odd couple of spots. The front free end paper is only partially attached. There are small ink inscriptions to the title page, rear free endpaper and pastedown. Overall the condition of the book is good only. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
