A green cloth hardback with blindstamped back board. Bevelled edges. Stamped pictorial front board with gilt lettering. With Kronheim prints. A wonderfully illustrated children's Bible. Joseph Martin Kronheim was born in Magdeburg, Germany on 26th October 1810. He moved to Edinburgh, via Paris, when he was 22 before becoming established in London around 1846. In 1850, Kronheim acquired a license to operate the Baxter process and adapted it, using zinc blocks instead of wood blocks. This, however, resulted in a flatter finish. He then turned to lithography for a short time, but soon returned to printing by the Baxter process. In a green cloth binding with a pictorial front board. Externally generally smart. Slightly bumped and rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spine. Small section of marking to spine. Loss to cloth to lower extremity of rear board. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright with the occasional handling mark and small closed tear. There is a small ink inscription on the front endpapers. Very Good . Ill.: Joseph Martin Kronheim.
