Sarah Stickney Ellis was a Quaker turned Congregationalist author who wrote many educational works, specifically relating to the moral education for women,and the role of women in society. Although not specifically focused on, or written for women, Ellis's interest in moral instruction continues within this text. Indeed, 'The Juvenile Scrap-book' was not only lauded as a desirable and enjoyable collection of short stories and poems, but was also praised as an 'instructive' annual, written to 'instruct the mind and improve the heart of the young reader' by containing a series of moral lessons embodied within both verse and prose. Collated, complete with sixteen monochromatic plates. In a cloth binding with gilt embossed vignette to boards, and gilt embossing to spine. Externally, very smart. Bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Engraved frontispiece and title page are detached but present. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, a few scattered spots to plates and occasional page. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
