It is believed that some of the work was written at Grammont's dictation. The publication of the biography made Hamilton one of the classic writers of France. This particular edition has been edited with notes by Sir Walter Scott. Rebound in a red buckram library binding. Externally, excellent with very little shelfwear. Bookplate for Bath Municipal library to the front pastedown. Stock number written to the recto of front endpaper. Blind stamp for Bath reference library occasionally found throughout. Bibliographic details of this work pasted to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with heavy spotting to the first and last few pages.
