P.G.Hamerton - The Portfolio Monographs on Artistic Subjects

Title: The Portfolio Monographs on Artistic Subjects
Description: London , Seeley and Co. Limited , 1894. Cloth. A charming collection of short stories, including Fair Women by William Sharp, The New Forest by C.J.Cornish and T.Gainsborough by Walter Armstrong. Beautifully illustrated throughout with frontispiece of The Snake in the Grass by Sir Joshua Reynolds, with tissue guard. William Sharp rarely wrote under his birth name and used the pseudonym Fiona MacLeod, dictating the text to his sister, whose handwriting would then be passed off as Fiona's manuscript. Fair Women was one of the unusual occasions Sharp used his name. C.J.Cornish was also the writer of The Naturalist on the Thames, he predominantly specialised in geographical fiction. Walter Armstrong was an art critic as well as a writer, who seldom wrote fiction, T.Gainsborough is one of these rarities. In original cloth binding with decorative gilt design to the front board. Externally, slight rubbing to boards and extremities. Shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound, but strained in places. Bright pages and plates, with some scattered light spotting. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
