Charles Wentworth Dilke - The Fall of Prince Florestan of Monaco

Title: The Fall of Prince Florestan of Monaco
Description: London, Macmillan and Co. 1874. First edition. Cloth. This is a first edition of the satire 'The Fall of Prince Florestan of Monaco' by Charles Wentworth Dilke. Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, 2nd Baronet (1843 - 1911) was an English Liberal and reformist politician, son of Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, 1st Baronet, and husband of the feminist art historian Emilia, Lady Dilke. Paradoxically both an imperialist and a leading and determined radical within the party, he helped to pass the 1884–85 parliamentary Reform Acts as well as supporting laws giving the municipal franchise to women, legalising labour unions, improving working conditions and limiting working hours, and being one of the earliest campaigners for universal schooling. Touted as a future prime minister, his political career was effectively terminated in 1885, after a notorious and well-publicised divorce case. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor shelfwear to the boards. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd spot and handling mark. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
