'The Vicar of Wakefield: A Tale' is a novel by Irish writer Oliver Goldsmith, and one of the most popular and widely read eighteenth century novels among Victorians. Depicting the the fall and rise of the Primrose family, presided over by the benevolent vicar Dr Charles Primrose, this text is both comic and sentimental and much of its popularity to its recognizable depiction of domestic life and loving family relationships. In a decorative blue cloth binding with gilt lettering to the spine, and gilt embellishment to the front board. Externally, generally smart, lightly rubbed in places. There is some bumping to the top and tail of the spine. Spine is also faded, and slightly cocked.Both hinges are weak. Internally, binding is loosening in places. There is a contemporary ink inscription the recto of front free end papers, dated '1887&apos. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
