Title: Les Trappistes Ou L&Apos;Order de Citeaux Histoire de la Trappe Depuis Sa Fondation Jusqu&Apos;a Nos Jours. History of the Trappist Order from Its Foundation to Our Times.
Description: Paris, Audin, 1853. Leather. A thorough history of the Trappist movement from its foundation to the Victorian era, in handsome burgundy calf bindings. The Trappists are a Benedictine, Catholic order who follow a strict Cisterian lifestyle in monastic contemplation. These lovely tomes by Casimir Gaillard, professor of history at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, remain eminently readable with bright, clear test, and broad margins. A smart addition to any reference or theology shelf. Complete in two volumes. Externally, bound in calf. A trifle rubbed. Lovely burgundy colour with gilt embellishments. Some wear to extremities; marked rubbing to back joint of vol. I, narrow open loss to calf on back board of vol. I. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges slightly tender. Foxing to preliminary and end pages as to be expected, but only a few scattered spots throughout main body of text. Both volumes with prize bookplate of religious school dated 1855, and armorial bookplate of Sybil Gardner. Both with half-title and marbled endpapers. Some open loss to preliminary page of vol. I, made good with bookplate. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
