Sibylle Aimée Marie-Antoinette Gabrielle de Riquetti de Mirabeau, Comtesse de Martel de Janville was a French writer who adopted the male nom de plume, Gyp, under which she published over one hundred novels yet stated she took no pleasure form writing. Gyp wrote humorous novels and sketches which brazenly denounced her own fashionable society as well as the French republic's political class , on top of this, she was a fanatical anti-semite. Due to her unpopular opinions many attempts were made on her life, including a sensational kidnapping. Miquette and Monsieur De Folleuil are made up of of dialogue between characters and this genre of satirical dialogue-novels was named "one of the happiest forms" by Henry James. In French.
