He had several bestselling novels and was considered to be the ideal man of letters of his age due to his ironic and sceptical nature.  In a fine quarter calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, smart with some minor rubbing to the extremities as well as to the head and tail of spine. Rear joint is also particularly rubbed at the tail.
