Theodore Roosevelt famously invited Ferrero to the White house after reading Grandeur et Decadance de Rome. Ferrero was then asked to lecture throughout the northeast of the USA. The author, Gugielmo Ferrero was an Italian historian, journalist and novelist who wrote numerous political essays until the fascist reign of the Black Shirts demanded he leave. The final two volumes focus on the founder of the Roman Empire, Augustus, who's great-uncle was Julius Cesar. Following Cesar's assassination, Augustus, formed a triumvirate with two others to rule by military dictatorship but eventually defeated them, naming himself "First Citizen." In French.
