Baron Auguste Louis de Stael-Holstein, 1790 - 1827, was a philanthropist and the eldest son of the famous author Madame de Stael. The Travellers Club was founded in 1819 to provide a meeting place for gentlemen who had travelled abroad, their foreign visitors and diplomats posted in London. In the 21st century the Travellers Club continues to fulfil this role. In a half morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, the front board is detached, and the rear board is held by cords only. Wear to the extremities. Rubbing to the boards and spine.
