The front blank has a pencil inscription reading 'L'Odeon Theatre, Paris, May 1935&apos. (The Odeon Theatre is one of France's six national theatres). The character Raffles, first created in the 1890s, is often regarded as an inversion of the sleuth Sherlock Holmes, created by Hornung's brother in law Arthur Conan Doyle. Raffles supports his lavish London lifestyle and career as a cricketer by carrying out ingenious burglaries. A master of disguise, he nevertheless relies on his more innocent sidekick Bunny to evade capture. In a half leather binding. Externally, smart, with only light shelfwear.
