A handsome example of this devotional and religious classic. Bound in full signed crushed morocco by Ramage, with moire silk bound to the endpapers and lovely gilt dentelles. The text is divided into four books, offering as detailed spiritual instructions and ultimately as a handbook for spiritual life arising from the Devotio Moderna movement, which Thomas followed. Apart from the Bible, no book had been translated into more languages than the Imitation of Christ at the time of its popularity. Book I (Admonitions Useful for the Spiritual Life), Book II (Admonitions Leading to the Interior Life), Book III (Of Interior Consolation) and Book IV (A Devout Exhortation to Holy Communion). Bound in full signed crushed morocco by Ramage, with moire silk to the endpapers. Externally, smart, with rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. With an ornate bookplate to the front endpaper, bearing the phrase "Feodorovna, naught but the highest shall content my soul", dated 1904. Minor offsetting to its facing page, otherwise bright and clean throughout. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
