A pair of first edition biographies on Rufus Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading, also known as the Earl of Reading from 1917-1926. Bound smartly in red calf, with matching cloth boards and gilt to the spines. Isaacs was a British Liberal politician and judge, who served as Lord Chief of High Justice, Viceroy of India, and a Foreign Secretary, the last Liberal to hold that post. The 1936 biography was written by Stanley Jackson and the 1942 biography was written by Rufus Isaac's son and the 2nd Marquess of Reading, Gerald Isaacs. Illustrated with four monochrome plates to Jackson's biography and a frontispiece and four double-sided monochrome plates to Isaac's biography. Collated, complete.  Bound in half calf with cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing to the extremities and slight discolouration to the spines. Internally, firmly bound.
