Three volumes of a four volume set, lacking volume four on reptiles and fishes. Volumes one and two are illustrated with a hand coloured frontispiece, eleven hand coloured plates, and numerous in-text images. Volume three is illustrated with a hand coloured frontispiece, twelve hand coloured plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A detailed study into natural history, with volumes on mammals and birds. Volumes one and two provide chapters on mammals from four-handed mammals and wing-handed mammals, to insect eating and flesh eating mammals, as well as thick-skinned animals, toothless animals, pouch-bearing mammals, and aquatic mammals. Volume three provides chapters on birds from rapacious birds, perching birds, climbing birds, and gallinaceous birds, to wading and swimming birds. From Cassell, Petter, & Galpin, a British book publishing house founded in 1848 by John Cassell and became an international publishing group company in the 1890s. Dated from the National Trust Libraries. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd small mark to the cloth. Splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spines as well as the board tips resulting in minor loss. With large splits to the joints resulting in the spine lifting slightly to volume one. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot or handling mark. Minor tide marks to the page edges with age toning to the endpapers. Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Good .
