A collection of very scarce works related to fishery legislation in Scotland in the late eighteenth century, with a letter gifting the works to Scottish naturalist John Harvie-Brown. Bound in the publisher's blue wraps. The twenty-third annual report of the inspector of fisheries in England and Wales, for the year 1883. An informative report containing pertinent information surrounding fishery laws, such as an abstract of licence duties, a table of principal byelaws, annual accounts of boards of conservators, and much more. This report provides great insight into the state of various fisheries during this period, showing the increase and decrease of numbers in different regions.Illustrated with one chart, one large folding map and three tables. Collated, complete. With two letters loosely inserted, both concerning the Scottish naturalist, John A. Harvie-Brown, who appears to have requested some information on fishing, and has been sent this report in response. One letter is from Francis Day, a military surgeon and author of fishing works. In addition to the report, the letter claims to have included seven other, smaller works. Three of those mentioned are loosely inserted, being 'An Act to establish a Fishery Board for Scotland' (1882), 'An Act to Amend an Act of the Ninth Year of King George the Fourth, for the Preservation of Salmon Fisheries in Scotland' (1844), and 'An Act for the Preservation of the Salmon Fisheries in Scotland' (1828). With the bookplate of J. A. Harvie-Brown. Pencil inscriptions to the first few pages of the text. Bound in the publisher's blue wraps. Externally, worn, with the front wrap detached, with closed tears and light chipping to the wrap extremities. Ink notation and light sunning to wraps, with a few marks. Chipping to backstrip and a small tide mark to bacsktrip. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with a little age toning and scattered spotting throughout. Good Only . Ill.: None. Good Only .
