His novels show the grimy side of poverty and prosperity in Victorian England, showing poor social conditions alongside repulsive characters.Illustrated throughout by George Cattermole and Hablot Knight Browne, better known as Phiz. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards, with renewed endpapers. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with scattered spots.
