Following Hawley's death in 1893, the esteemed Chicago-based musical instrument firm Lyon & Healy acquired the collection, cementing their reputation as a leading dealer in the early twentieth century. With the former owner's inscription of Arthur Richardson to the head of the limitation leaf, and a further ink notation to the title page head.The work discusses the evolution and decline of violin-making art in Italy between 1540 and 1800. In the publisher's original cloth backed, paper covered boards. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with back strip and spine label lightly age toned. Light rubbing to board perimeters. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Former owner's inscription to head of limitation leaf, and to title page head. Pages bright, with only the odd spot. Very Good .
