It was originally published in monthly instalments over nineteen months, and this is the first edition published in a complete book.Charles Dickens is possibly the most well-known Victorian author, with his fifteen novels still being widely read and performed, as well as being studied in school and enjoyed by people of all ages.Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his penname 'Phiz&apos. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Spine is faded. Light rubbing to the boards and spine. A small amount of loss to the tail of the front joint. Light bumping to the extremities. Small chip to the spine label. Tear to the head of the rear joint. Front hinge is strained, rear hinge is tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned with scattered spots, mostly to the plates. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of the engraved title.
