Volume I is the first edition, Volume II is a later edition.A zoological study written by the zoologist Edward Turner Bennett and illustrated by William Turner, for the Zoological Society of London.The Society was founded in 1826, with the aim to create a collection of animals for study at leisure, founding an institution which later became London Zoo. This work explores the animals housed in the Zoo, which included the Arabian oryx, greater kudus, orangutan and the now extinct quagga and thylacine.Illustrated with vignettes throughout.Volume I covers quadrupeds, Volume II birds.Sixteen pages of adverts to the front of Volume I. In a full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, Volume I is a little worn, with lifting to the head of the spine. Chips to the spine label of Volume I, spine label to Volume II is age-toned and a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Faint dampstains to the boards. Spine of Volume I is faded. Hinges of Volume I are tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with scattered spots. Good .
