The autobiography of Lieutenant-Colonel Frank Johnson, an English entrepreneur, pioneer, explorer, and army officer who, at the age of sixteen, sailed to the Cape in South Africa. In later years he would help to form the Northern Gold Fields Exploration Syndicate, and was awarded a contract to organise, equip, and lead a pioneer corps into Mashonaland. By the outbreak of World War I, Johnson was Chairman of seventeen companies, many of them mining concerns. Previously held in the library of R. Cherer Smith, an author on historical works on Southern Africa. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and board edges with the odd mark to the cloth. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine as well as the board tips resulting in minor fraying and light loss. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Age toning to the endpapers with the author's contemporary ink inscription to the title page.
