Author: Anonymous Title: Navy Directory
Description: Washington, Government Printing Office , 1918-1919 . Leather. The February 1918 to April 1919 issues of the very scarce Navy Directory. Fascinating works of American naval history hailing from the Library of Congress. Six very scarce volumes - containing fifteen issues - of the Navy and Marine Corps List and Directory, better known as the 'Navy Directory', published from February 1918 to April 1919, and thus covering the final months of the First World War.The Navy Directory was an official U.S. government publication listing officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. It contained names, ranks, duty assignments, and other relevant information about naval and Marine Corps personnel during World War I.These volumes are from the US Library of Congress, with their stamp, reading 'Surplus - 1 Library of Congress Duplicate' to a front blank of each volume. This directory was essential for maintaining personnel records, providing insight into the organisational structure of the Navy and Marine Corps. With a fascinating wartime context, the lists includes officers involved in major naval operations, ship assignments, and administrative roles. Each issue retains the original front wrap and title page. While the 1918 issues are labelled 'Confidential' to the front wrap head and are numbered so as to keep track of their distribution, by 1919 the war was over and thus the issues are not numbered, and are no longer labelled as confidential.Present here are:Volume I: February (No. 254), March (No. 1115), and April (No. 25) 1918 issues. While the February issue is titled 'Navy and Marine Corps List and Directory', in all subsequent issues it was renamed and titled simply 'Navy Directory&apos.Volume II: May (No. 689), June (No. 21), July (No. 1447).Volume III: August (No. 1611), September (No. 66)Volume IV: October (No. 76), November (No. 1073), December (No. 925)Volume V: January and February 1919Volume VI: March and April 1919.During the publication of these volumes, the President was Woodrow Wilson, the Secretary of the Navy was Josephus Daniels, and the Assistant Secretary of the Navy was Franklin D. Roosevelt.Volumes include alphabetical lists of active servicemen in the Navy and Marine Corps, Navy Yards and Shore Stations, Officers.
