He spent most of his life cataloguing medicinal herbs, and was briefly accused of witchcraft in the English Civil War. He was a relative of Thomas Culpeper, the lover of Catherine Howard, who was beheaded on order of Henry VIII. In a half calf binding, with cloth covered boards. Light tide marks to rear board. Front joint starting, board extremely weakly held to the tail only. Rear hinge strained, with board a touch tender. Internally, firmly bound. Frontispiece detached and loosely inserted, with losses to perimeters. Pages lightly age toned, with significant handling marks throughout. Spotting to first few leaves.
