The first trade edition of this work. In the publisher's original cloth binding.Collated, complete with a coloured frontispiece and fifty-one monochrome plates. From British essayist, caricaturist and parodist Max Beerbohm, whose works are in many public collections. The caricatures include eminent figures of the time such as Joseph Conrad, David Lloyd George, Philip Guedalla, Woodrow Wilson and Claude Phillips, among others.From the library of Frank Wyndham Goldie, an English actor who came to prominence at the Liverpool Playhouse from 1927-1934, the last year during which he also directed plays. In 1937 he starred in Margaret Kennedy's play 'Autumn' in the West End.  In the original red cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine.
