A collection of memories on Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, an English actor and theatre manager who began performing in the 1870s. By 1887, he was managing the Haymarket Theatre in the West End, winning praise for adventurous programming and lavish productions, as well as starring in many of its productions. Tree founded the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1904 and was knighted for his contributions to theatre in 1909. With contributions from Iris Tree, Maud Tree, Viola Tree, Edmund Gosse, Desmond MacCarthy, Gilbert Parker, Bernard Shaw, and more. Collected by his half-brother, Sir Henry Maximilian Beerbohm, an English essayist, parodist and caricaturist under the signature Max. Previously held in the library of Mark Samuels Lasner, an American researcher and authority on the literature and art of the late Victorian era. He is also noted as a collector, bibliographer and typographer. Dated from the British Library. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Front hinge just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound.
