Illustrated with seven plates to Volume I and six to Volume II. Lacking one plate to Volume I. 'Historical Sketches of Statesmen Who Flourished in the Time of George III' (1846), a single-volume edition, previously published in a two-volume set in 1839. Containing remarks on the French Revolution. Complete, illustrated with ten plates. An interesting trio of historical works, exploring the lives of influential figures including Voltaire, Rousseau, Hume, Cavendish, Priestley, Lavoisier, Gibbon and others.With Volume I and III bound with the half titles. Bound in full tree calf by Riviere. Externally, sound, with the rear board to II and III detached but present. Light rubbing to joints and extremities, with the odd mark.
