This is an interesting look at life in a Victorian household, and the running of it.Beeton's work was originally serialised as 'The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine' in twenty-four monthly instalments in 'The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine', her husband's publication. Her work has been constantly expanded over time, and is still in print.From the library of Jill Norman, an editor and food writer, with her bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. Norman began working at Penguin in the early 1960s and, as the only woman, the care of the company's cookery books fell to her. It was her responsibility to expand the cookery titles Penguin produced, and thus began to publish works by Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Alan Davidson. In particular Norman worked closely with the famed cookery writer Elizabeth David, with whom she was good friends. In a rebacked quarter calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is faded. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Hinges have been reinforced.
