This uncommon mid-nineteenth-century edition of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language, full bound in the original blind stamped leatherette. A mid-nineteenth-century enlarged pocket edition of Johnson's Dictionary of the English language. No complete collation is available; the text appears complete, however is perhaps lacking preliminaries.Full bound in the original publisher's blind stamped leatherette.An uncommon edition of the work.Samuel Johnson was an English writer who, according to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, was "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history". Johnson's A Dictionary of the English Language remains one of the most influential dictionaries of the English language, with this edition containing miscellaneous quotations and phrases, chronological tables of remarkable events, and tables of the most important geographical discoveries. In the original publisher's full leatherette binding. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities resulting in fractional lifting of the cloth. Hinges strained. Endpapers with annotations, minor handling marks. Evidence of attempted removal of the pastedowns. Internally, some sections of the binding are coming loose. Pages are lightly age toned with mild spotting, marginal handling marks, and small closed tears and chips, heavier to front outer leaves where the text is impacted.
