Elliott of Elliott and Fry, a Victorian photography studio founded in 1863 by Joseph John Elliott (his father) and Clarence Edmund Fry. Ernest went on to produce this work after the partnership with his father was dissolved in 1892. It is an experimental work of portraiture, in that it attempts to portray the sportsmen in their natural surroundings as best as possible during a time that often favoured simple studio photography. With bibliographical notes by F. G. Aflalo. From the library of William Cavendish-Bentinck, Sixth Duke of Portland (1857-1943), who was a British landowner, courtier and Conservative politician. He notably served as Master of the Horse between 1886 and 1892 and again between 1895 and 1905. In the original decorative cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with slight rubbing and bumping to the extremities. A couple small marks to the rear board. Bookplate of one William Arthur to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound.
