Collated, complete.Urbain Dubois' recipe book collecting together popular household recipes, written for economy and simplicity, and small kitchens. This work includes many staples of French cuisine, containing over one thousand recipes, and a selection of pre-planned menus for various occasions.  From the library of Jill Norman, an editor and food writer, with her bookplate to the recto of the front endpaper. Norman began working at Penguin in the early 1960s and, as the only woman, the care of the company's cookery books fell to her. It was her responsibility to expand the cookery titles Penguin produced, and thus began to publish works by Jane Grigson, Claudia Roden, and Alan Davidson. In particular Norman worked closely with the famed cookery writer Elizabeth David, with whom she was good friends. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound, plate facing page vi, and pages vii-x are working loose. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots.
