Containing the comedies of Publius Terentius Afer, better known as Terence, a Roman African playwright whose works were first performed between 166 and 160 BC. Terence wrote his plays in a simple and conversational Latin, resulting in his works being used throughout the Middle Ages and Renaissance to teach Latin.With a preface and life of the author to Volume I. Ink inscription of Thomas Wilkinson, dated 1705. Bound in contemporary speckled calf. Externally, sound, with rubbing to the extremities, heavier to joints. Hinges are a little strained, with the front hinges tender. Joints are cracked, heavier to I and II. Small worming marks to joints and backstrips of I and II. Ink inscription to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound.
