Dore depicts the legend of the Wandering Jew's immortal journey from the crucifixion of Christ to Judgement Day. The beautiful monochrome artwork is filled with Dore's usual dramatic style, constructed with biblical, epic conflict woven into each stroke, displaying this terrible legend in all its glory. With sweeping, powerful illustrations befitting the legend, Gustave Dore's collected work is enchantingly presented in this extremely scarce volume. With the bookplate of Wilfred Francis Southall. Bound in the publisher's original green cloth. Externally, worn, with marking and damp staining to the cloth. Front board has detached, with the loss and lifting to the backstrip. Cloth to rear board is cockled. Rear board is tender, with cords visible. Lacking front free endpaper. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, binding is tender, with the textblock split in a couple of places. Half title detached but present.
