This novel is another of James' popular works, and was first published as a serial in 'Harper's Weekly' from 1898 to 1899. The novel follows a young girl coming of age, and the hierarchy and difficulties of her family's social set, a brilliant look at decadence and corruption in the fin de siecle. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the spines and extremities. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Some minor marks to the boards and spines, a little heavier to 'Washington Square' and 'Lesson of the Master', with dampstains to the fore edges of the front boards. Cloth to the boards of 'The Awkward Age' is a little cockled. Spine of 'The Awkward Age' is faded. Front hinge of 'The Awkward Age' is strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
