The first edition. Very scarce work. Bound in quarter cloth with hardback boards. Comprised of twenty-four pages of text, followed by a 68" by 7.5" fold-out map depicting the Rhine and surrounding area. This intricately detailed map illustrates various monuments, towns, mountainous regions, and much more. A charming work, intended to be used on steamboats and railways traversing along the Rhine. The textual section of this work provides a description of the principal towns, villages, castles and railways, plans of the principal cities and illustrations of monuments and ruins which are deemed "worth seeing". While the entirety of the text and rear cover are written in English, the front cover presents the title in German, reading 'Der Rhein von Mainz bis Cöln. Neues Taschen-Panorama mit anhängendem Texte.&apos. Bound in quarter cloth with hardback boards. Externally, very good, with light marking to boards and a little bumping to the extremities. Ink inscription of 'July 10 1871' to front cover. Small chips to the spine head and tail. Small tears to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound, with gutter reinforced to page 24. Pages are bright and clean,with a little age toning to title page. Map is bright, with a little scattered spotting. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
