Collated complete. With a spare spine label tipped in at the rear of each volume.Fulke Greville was a poet and dramatist of the Elizabethan period who also served in the House of Commons at various times between 1581 and 1621. For his service as treasurer of the navy, chancellor of the exchequer, and commissioner of the Treasury, he was made Baron Brooke in 1621. He was also importantly given ownership of Warrick castle in 1604, after which the manuscript of what are essentially Greville's final works is titled. This edition of Greville's works was published only six years after the discovery of the Warrick MSS. and so collates them into an accessible modern format. It includes Caelica, A Treatise of Humane Learning, An Inquisition upon Fame and Honour, a Treatise of Warres, Mustapha, and Alaham. In the original publisher's full cloth binding with paper spine labels. Externally, generally smart with minor handling marks and light rubbing. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spines and the extremities: in the latter's case, causing fractional splitting of the cloth. Spine labels are slightly age toned and have some minor handling marks, and a couple of minor chips and closed tears, heavier to Volume II. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright and clean pages, barring light age toning and the odd very marginal mark. Condition is thus very good indeed, especially given the scarcity of the work.
