This copy is described as a new impression with a frontispiece.With a frontispiece monochrome plate illustration of the final moment in 'The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg', in addition to two pairs of monochrome vignette illustrations of the gold coin faces as they are described in the same story: stamped with the refrain "Go, and reform" and signed by Pinkerton the banker. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known by his pen name, Mark Twain, is one of the most famous American authors of the nineteenth and twentieth century and was deemed "the father of American literature" by William Faulkner. His best known works include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884). The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg and Other Stories is a collection of Twain's short stories and includes 'The Man that Corrupted Hadleyburg', which several critics have interpreted as a retelling of the 'snake-in-Eden' narrative in Genesis. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with minor handling marks and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities, resulting in some fractional splitting of the cloth in these areas. Internally, sections of the binding are strained. Pages are a trifle age toned and have spotting throughout, however are generally clean.
