The novel follows a John Haye, a young man who is blinded in an accident and has to rethink his life and future. Worried that he will become a burden, his step-mother attempts to marry home off as soon as possible, but is displeased when he falls for a women of lower social class. This work is Green's first novel and was written during his time studying at Magdalen College in Oxford. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally excellent with only fading to the spine, a minor lean and slight shelf wear. Internally firmly bound with clean and lightly age toned pages.
