Little was known of his character until William Aldis Wright published this volume, as well as 'Letters and Literary Remains' in 1889. These letters reveal Fitzgerald as a witty and sympathetic letter writer, corresponding with actress and playwright Fanny Kemble and spanning from 1871 to within three weeks of his death in 1883. In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Marks to the boards. Bookplate of one Alfred Baldwin to the front pastedown.
