A self-taught painter, Herdman frequently made notes on how the city he loved was growing and changing. In total, he painted over 2,000 watercolours of Liverpool scenes. His landscapes were exhibited at the Royal Academy on several occasions between 1834 to 1861.This particular work features seventy-two plates depicting various scenes all over Liverpool.Collated, complete. Bound in half morocco with cloth to the boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to joints and extremities. The odd mark to cloth, heavier to the rear board to II. Hinges have been reinforced. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the occasional area of light scattered spotting, including one or two to the plate perimeters, although these largely remain bright and clean. Very Good .
