First editions. Both bound in the original full red morocco, with a working wallet-style closure that closes the book. With a contemporary ink inscription to the 1879 front free endpaper stating "From a Contributor, 27 November 1878". With a folding coloured plate and coloured title page to the front of both volumes. With fifteen monochrome plates to 1877 and nine plates to 1879. Collated, complete. 'Punch's Pocket-Books' were annual publications containing a cash account log, daily diary pages and a variety of useful business information, as well as short stories, poetry and cartoons. The travel-sized addition to the 'Punch' publication allowed readers to enjoy the humour of their favourite contributors while having easy access to the most important business information of the day. Illustrated by John Tenniel, Charles Keene and Linley Sambourne. Aside from his prominent career with Punch, Tenniel is best known as the illustrator of Lewis Carroll"s classic works 'Alice"s Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-glass&apos.  Bound in the original full red morocco, with working fold-over flap that slips in to rear board attachment. Externally, very smart, with rubbing to the extremities and a couple marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with offsetting to the endpapers and a contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper of 1979.
