The first publication of this work, subsequently published in other forms. 'Mourning Muse of Alexis. A Pastoral. Lamenting the Death of our Gracious Queen Mary' (1695), written by William Congreve. The first edition of the work. 'Despairing Lover' (1709), written by William Walsh. A single-paged poem to the final page of the work. Collated, complete with page 1 containing the title page, page 2 being a blank, pages 3-8 containing 'A Letter from Italy', pages 9-15 containing 'The Mourning Muse' and page 16 containing 'The Despairing Lover&apos. Disbound. Disbound. Externally, sound, with edge wear to the spine where pages have separated. Wraps are a little age toned with the odd mark. Internally, a few pages still holding together.
