He never went to the theatre, and only when into a café once, as well as avoiding receiving or paying visits. In these two volumes, Head notes the life of the poor in Paris, various streets and gardens, the railway, the post-office, his lodgings, washing-boats, and prisons. It is a fascinating snapshot of life in the heart of France in the mid-nineteenth century. In the publisher's original cloth.
