These books are titled 'Tunc' (1968) and 'Nunquam' (1970). The novels reflect the political tensions of the May 1968 general strike in Paris and address the same theme of contingency Durrell developed in the Alexandria Quartet. 'The Avignon Quintet' (of which this set contains books two-five), are set before an during World War II, largely in France, Egypt and Switzerland. The novels feature multiple and contradictory narrators, showcasing Durrell's development in experimental fiction that followed 'Alexandria&apos. Themes involve obsession with mortality, Fascism, metafiction, Quantum Mechanics and sexual identity.
