Bound in a quarter cloth with the publisher's boards, rebacked. A scarce poetical work, written anonymously, although is largely attributed to Irish poet and priest George Croly, and in fewer cases, to it's publisher William Ainsworth, who also wrote during this period. 'May Fair' is a sub-Byronic satirical poem, in four cantos, set entirely over the course of one day. With five moments captured, including 'The Morning Visit', 'The Dinner', 'The After-Dinner', 'The Midnight Drive' and 'L'Envoy&apos. With a letter from the publisher and novelist in his own right, William Harrison Ainsworth, sent to his friend and fellow author, Charles Kent at his address 5, Arundel Terrace, Kemp Town, Brighton, where he resided in 1858. A personal friend to Charles Dickens, Kent was known for his contributions to Household Words and All the Year Round. The letter reads 'Dear Sir, I have much pleasure in complying with your request to possess my autograph, and beg to subscribe myself. Your faithful serv. W. Harrison Ainsworth&apos.With two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.Ink inscription of collector and scholar Brent Gration Maxfield. Bound in a quarter cloth with the publisher's boards, rebacked. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the extremities. A little rubbing to joints and extremities and the odd mark. Pencil notations to front paste down. Letter tipped-in to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with the odd spot. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
