A uniformly bound set of eight tiles by J. D. Griffith Davies, from his own library, with his bookplate to the front paste down of each volume. Each volume is a first edition. This set contains a variety of historical works by J. D. Griffith Davies, primarily exploring the history of Britain, especially through it's monarchs. Including:'A New History of England', a scarce work, dated 1931 to 1932, four parts bound in one volume. Illustrated with in-text maps. 'The Nation at Work, From Earliest Times to 1603', a very scarce work, dated 1934. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and in-text illustrations.'King Henry IV', a scarce work, dated 1935. Illustrated with a frontispiece.'Henry V', a scarce work, dated 1935. Illustrated with a frontispiece.'Honest George Monck', an uncommon work, dated 1936. Illustrated with a frontispiece.'George the Third', a scarce work, dated 1936. Illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding map, and four plates. Inscribed by the author to the head of the title, "Thou hast almost persuaded me to be a Tory. J.D.G.D.". Author has bound in George's family tree to the rear. 'A King in Toils', an uncommon work, dated 1938. Illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding map, and eight plates.'Revolt and Reaction, a Study of European History From 1789 to 1878', a scarce work. dated 1939. Illustrated with in-text maps. Four pages of adverts to the rear.Collated, complete. In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Spines are a little faded. A few light marks to the boards and spines. Loss of leather to the tail of the boards and joints of 'The Nation at Work' and 'George Monck', lighter to 'Henry IV', 'King in Toils', and 'Revolt and Reaction&apos. SPots to the fore edges. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spots, heavier to the first and last few pages. Author's inscription to the head of the title of 'George the Third&apos. Very Good . Ill.: Various. Very Good .
