A pleasing set of two volumes from Pictures from "Punch", a series comprising four volumes in total. Uniformly bound in half crushed morocco, with marbled boards and decorative gilt to the spines.'Punch' was a popular English periodical famous for its satiric humour, caricatures and cartoons, many of which pertained to political issues or figures of the time. Both of these volumes contain a delightful array of captioned illustrations that featured in this publication. Volume II begins with the frontispiece portraits of Mark Lemon, the founding editor of the magazine, and John Tenniel, whose illustrations are showcased here. Tenniel is also best known for his work in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.Volume IV has frontispiece portraits of editor Tom Taylor and illustrator George du Maurier, who is also known for his Gothic novel, Trilby. Uniformly bound in half crushed morocco, with marbled boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spines' leather. Internally, firmly bound.
