Very scarce. A collection of school and house lists for the Charterhouse, a public school in Godalming, Surrey. Originally founded by Thomas Sutton in 1611 on the site of the old Carthusian monastery in Charterhouse Square, London, the school is one of the original nine English public schools reported upon by the Clarendon Commission in 1864. With lists of governors, masters, students, and house members lists for the September, January, and May, of each year. This set contains: 1875-1878, 1882-1884, 1885-1887, 1888-1890, 1891-1893, 1894-1896, 1897-1899, 1900-1903, 1903-1906, and 1907-1909. Bound by Stedman, Godalming. In the original full crushed morocco binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spines. The odd small mark to the boards. Rear hinge just starting but firm to volume three. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of the odd volume. The odd pencil annotation. Bound by Stedman, Godalming. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
