A collection of short stories and poems, first published in 'The New Monthly Magazine and Humorist', a British periodical published between 1814 and 1884. Originated by Henry Colburn as 'The New Monthly Magazine and Universal Register', the magazine was handed over to Theodore Hook, who acted as editor until 1843. Comprised of fourteen different writings, including 'Christmas', 'The Hypochondriac' and 'Poetical Epistle from Amos Stokes&apos. Edited by man of letters and composer, Theodore Hook, who was widely known as the practical joker of London, being the brains behind the Berners Street Hoax of 1809. Bound in the publisher's original boards. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the spine and extremities and light marking to boards. A little fading to the spine, with slight loss to spine label. Spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with scattered spotting throughout. Good . Ill.: None.
